AJ's Hangar Review
By: Elyssa Manis

Now, I don't have a lot of time to go into a lot of detail - well maybe I do, but I just don't feel like it at the moment, cause I'm tired and sore all over. But, I will give a small review of the most recent MOIST show - that being of course, the one in Kingston, Ontario.

I went to the Kingston show, cause I thought it would be a fun experience, traveling yet again, to another province (I live in Montreal, Quebec) - and I was right. Even though Kingston isn't the most lively of Canadian cities, it's still pretty damned cool! The people there are really friendly (even though most of them didn't care to realize that it is winter, wearing anything but a coat or jacket).

My two friends from Montreal, Sylvie and Melanie, and my good friend from Toronto, Laura and I waited from 6pm outside the venue to get a good place in front of the stage. We were fortunate enough to check out a bit of the guy's soundcheck! Jeff came out with his family, and was quite surprised to see us waiting - or for that matter, to see us at all, since we came into Kingston especially for the show. We said hey, and I complemented him on his new purple / black hair. Then Mark and Kevin came out, and we chatted with Mark for a bit. David was nowhere to be seen.

9pm comes and we finally get let in. The opening band, J Englishman, were really great!! They had a nice and fresh sound, and they're pretty cool. I had the bassist right in front of me, and well, his pelvis and my face came into contact on more than one occasion during the show - I was a bit frightened at how close he was.

Then came the moment of wonderment - MOIST. They did pretty much the same setlist as their most recent previous tour. Started out with Tangerine, and ended with Alive. They were amazing that night!! I don't know if it was because they just did a great job, or the fact that AJ"s was small, and had good acoustics, or if it was because we were literally 5 inches away from them. At one point, David came on my side of the stage, and handed me his water bottle, which I have right now - of course, other people's hands began leaching onto it, but I got them off. Jeff also came right in front of me, standing on the speaker I was holding on to. I was poking at his shoes, and playing with his knees ;-) Later on after the show, he asked me if I was attempting to tie both his shoes together. Of course, I wasn't. That would be mean!

After the show, Sylvie and I got to talk with Jeff for a few minutes. It was nice to see him and shoot the breeze. He signed my original copy of the MOIST Indie tape, which he was happy to see. Then, we got to chat the Kevin, and Mark. I had the chance to ask Mark about his book, which he says should be released in two months; he also mentioned playing a special show in Montreal for the reopening of Club Soda, which will happen on March 25th.

All in all, the show was absolutely amazing. It is the best MOIST show I've seen I think. The energy in the room was great, despite the fact that you can tell most of the people there were just there because it was something to do. My photos didn't turn out at all, except for a few shots. The first three photos above are mine, while the other's were taken by my friend Sylvie, who so generously allowed me to post them on my site. Please don't take them and put them on your site if you have one.

So, that's about it! The show was incredible, we all had a great time in Kingston, and soon I'll be at the reopening of Club Soda (hopefully) and I'll have another story to tell. - Elyssa Manis
